N.B. — There was a slight earthquake at 630 last evening the earth wave appearing to travel from east to west. It was accompanied by a most singular phenomenon which it is difficult to account for. lam in the habit of veri* fying earthquakes by noticing the shaking of the glass drops on two lustres standing on the north and south ends of a mantelpiece, I inspected these immediately after the shock last night and, to my great surprise, found the glass drops on the lustre at the south were violently agitated whilst those at the north were perfectly still.
