No. 5 Ward Loan
TO THE EDITOR OF THE STAR. riiß, — I read your article on Tuesday . about our loan, and though I don't agree with some of your remarks, I would like to ask you one or two questions. You know editors are supposed to answer everything. Now, what will have to be paid by owners of land on the south side of the railway line if our road and bridge scheme is carried out ? Some say 2£d in the £, and that one warden would have to pay over £20 himself on his property below the railway line, let alone what he will pay on the land he owns north of the line. Well, all I can say is, if that is the case, he is very foolish for his own sake if he pushes the scheme through. If I were in his place I should be very grateful for the chance you say that now exists of the loan failing. It would be right into my hand.— l am, &c, Batepaybb No. 5 Ward. [Perhaps Warden Bull will supply this information. — Ed. F .8. |
