[PEB UNITED PBESS ASSOCIATION.! • London, February 26. \ The wool sales hare closed firm, and prices generally are about level to those obtained at the December sales, except in the case of good greasy combing and fine crossbreds, which were slightly higher, while low faulty merinos were £d to Id better. During the series 270,000 bales were catalogued, of which number 27,000 were withdrawn; 158,000 bales were purchased for export. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company (Limited) have received the following cable message, dated London, February 25 f 1888 :— Wool— The sales olosed to-day at the level of last sales, except for superior greasy, superior combing washed, superior scoured merino, and coarse crossbred, which have advanced nearly £d per lb, while medium and inferior greasy, inferior washed and scoured merino have declined &d per lb. Superior greasy merino lambs' has advanced £d per lb since the close of last sales, but inferior has declined £d to Id per lb. The sales comprise about 255,000 bales; 153,000 bales have been, taken for the continent, 5000 bales for America, and 27,000 have been held over for future disposal. Frozen meat— The price of mutton has advanced £d per lb since last report.
