The Chairman of the New South Wales branch of the Irish National League has received a cable message from London stating that several of the Irish National pnrty will pay a visit to the colonies at an early date, with a view to furthering the cause of the people of Ireland. Among the party will probably ' be Mr William O'Brien, M.P. for Cork. I A Bill has been introduced into the Legislative Assembly providing for] legalising the totalisator. It is expected t to meet with strong opposition. One member, in opposing the measure, said that if the New Zeaand Government were asked their opinion of tbe machine they would reply that it wtu a curse to the country. The cricket match, combined Australia t. a team selected from Messrs Vernon's and Lilly white's teams, was re* sumed to-day. The weather was fine, but the wicket damp. The Australians, who on the first day's play had lost eight wickets for 3d runs, continued their innings, which closed for 44, being 69 behind l heir opponents. Gurrett was the highest scorer with 10. The Englishmen in their second innings, scored 137— Mtfurieeßead 39, Newham and Stoddart 18 each, Brigs 14, and Attwell 12. In their second inuings the Australians scored 82. The Englishmen thus won the match by 124 runs. Melboubnb, February 14.
