Beardon, of Hastings, while opening an upstair window, overbalanced and fell out on to the verandah, and thence to the ground, a distance of 14 feet, smashing his leg leg below the knee. The injured limb was amputated, but Reardon never recovered, and died at 11 a.m. yesterday. Auckland, February 13. Lucy Denzie, aged 22, the daughter of an Onehunga settler, was drowned in Luke Takapuna on Saturday morning. She suffered from melancholia, and got out of the house where she was staying unobserved e»rlj in (he morning, and it is supposed that she threw herself info the lake. The body was found in 16 feet of water. This morning 460 bags of crushed quartz were brought from the Adeline mine at Karangahupe, and 46 bags from the Maritoto claims. 1 The stuff is to be de» spatched to Germany to be treated by the gold extracting process. A fine specimen of Californian salmon, 30m long, 21in girth and 17Ibs weight, was caught in the Motupiko river yesterday. A telegram from the Owen gives the following returns : — The Enterprise min<> in 5£ days crushed 95 tons of stone, for which 80ox 13dwts of amalgam were obtained from piates only ; at Wakalu in five days two hours 85 tens were put through, and 640z 12dwt of amalgam obtained from places only.
