Acclimatisation Society

The annual general meeting of the ; above was held in Mr Sherwill's office i last Saturday evening, Mr Sherwill in ■ the chair. The minutes of the last annual meeting were read and confirmed ; also those of a meeting held in May last. . The President reported that during the past year a Hatchery had been erected, and 9000 trout hatched; also that 2000 young trout had been received from : MaSterton, and turned out in the Oroua river. The accounts of the society Were read and adopted. ,; The following ' gentlemen were elected a Council for the current year :. Messrs Sherwill, D. Johnston, Bull, Downes, Bilderbeck, Haybittle, Bartholomew, Curtis, Beattio, Lethbridge, Liyod, and Benson ; Dr Johnston was elected President, Mr P. Bartholomew Vice-President, Mr Beattie Secretary and Treasurer, and Mr Haybittle Auditor, ; The officers of the society; were authorised to make certain financial arrangements with the bank; A vote of thanks was passed to Mr C. Bull for the trouble he had taken in superintending the erection of the hatchery, which has been found to be satisfactory. , ........ The thanks of the society were also voted to Mr J. Campion for his services as caretaker of the ova, and a douceur of £2 2s was ordered to be paid to him. It was resolved, on the motion of Mr Curtis, seconded by Mr P. Bartholomew, That the Secretary write to the Colonial Secretary recommending that the game season this year for native and imported game (hen pheasants excepted) be from Ist April to 31st July ; and further that short period licenses be granted to bona fide visitors to the district (that is to persons residing outside the boundaries of this district) at 5s per day or 10s per week. On the motion of Mr Curtis, seconded by Mr P. Bartholomew, Mr Bilderbeck was appointed Hanger of the Society for the present year. Each member was authorised to collect subscriptions for the Society.
