Presbyterian Church, Feilding

The following is the report of the Managers of the Presbyterian Church, Feilding, for the year 1887 :-— - The committee have much pleasure in again presenting you with a satisfactory report of the years work. During the year new members and subscribers have joined us, and more particularly in the last quarter, suby scriptions and sabbath collectionf being larger than for either of the two previous years. A systematic collector, assisted T?y a spirit of voluntary contribution among the member? generally, has enabled us to present our yearly accounts without any artrears being due from subscribers. The choir, under able teaching at fch& weekly practices, has made excel? ' lent progress, finding n6 difficulty is i the more varied musio of the -..new: i church praise. "We cannot over %stii mate the services rendered by the gentleman who so kindly and so effi- • ciently gives this tuition to the choir. - We have to deplore the departure . of one of the two ladies who, with > unfailing regularity and skill, have alternately presided at the organ. r We need not here give assurance that - the good wishes of the congregation; > go with her to her new home. i In our last report a hope was ex- > pressed that progress might be made/ i during the year; towards providing a t manse. This has been more than I realised. The manse, erected on th» i grounds adjoining the Church, is one - of the most comfortable and complete; » residences in the town. Especial com- . mendation and thanks are due to Mr - Wm. Crichton who presented the plans r which' have given much satisfaction: t to all concerned. The total cost wa* very little less than £300; of which j there remains a debt of £150. ThisK sum was raised principally among thecongregation in an economical andcouvenient form by means of 8 per cent, debentures, repayable at any time in sums of £5 without previousnotice. Considering that the church, manse, and land cost nearly £?00iand i afford so much convenience, it must bet satisfactory to know that the debt is I so small and with every prospect of a i substantial yearly reduction. The following members of committee retire by rotation, but are eligible for re-election, Messrs Bartholomew (junr.), Nilsson, Huff, and Knox. Thanks are due to these gentlemen who assisted so well to carry on the - affairs, and to preserve those amicable . relations which have characterised the 9 whole of their proceedings. i The following are the receipts and r expenditures: —
