Accident on the Masterton Railway
An accident, fortunately unattended by any Serious result, occurred to the ordinary afternoon train from Masterton to Wellington yesterday. After the train left Featherston, and when about a mile north of tigeon Bush, a truck placed next the passenger carriages became derailed, and ran in this condition for some distance. The train was stopped as speedily ac possible, but not before the derailed truck ran on to an open water-way, some of the sleepers oh which it broke. A number of men were despatched tc the spot as quickly as possible, and after about an hour's delay the true! was restored to the line and the trail proceeded on its journey, reaching Wellington an hour behind time. Th< accident was caused by the force o: the- gale which was blowing witi phenomenal violence at the time. I is a matter for congratulation tha sone of the passenger cars left thi railo, but no doubt their occupant were much alarmed at the fate of thi truck. The train consisted of on engine, next two trucks, then thre long passenger carriages and th guard's van. — N. Z. Times.
