The Feilding Star. TUESDAY, JANUARY 10, 1888. Personal .
Ik order that w« might have an opportunity of obtaining from the Manchester Koad Board aome information which would enable us to explain to our subscribers in No. 5 ward of the Manchester Road District, why certain advertising was taken from our journal, we wrote ,to the Board applying that their .previous decision, dealing with this matter, ' should be reversed. Our letter was duly read at the meeting held on Saturday, and,; according to bur report published elsewhere^ Jhen._" dropped.". ... Now, we ; wish our readers to particularly note the following :— When the sub* ject of advertising came up at the previous meeting, Warden Bull, J.P., ; — ar~Sfrinihg light of the Manchester Road Board--- distinctly said a certain journal had 1 the largest circulation in his Ward (No. 5;), .and for that reason he would oppose the advertisement appearing in the^FBiLDiNO Stab. When he found by . our, letter, to the Board on Saturday that weir were quite ready to " take the Bull by the horns," he denied he had said anything at any of the Board's meetings either good, had, or indifferent" respecting the Feildino Stab, and asked Mr Tremewan, of No 6 ward, for some information on, the ; point. Mr Teemewjln very properly replied he was not in t» position to say anything in the matter. Warden Bull? Jvl';, then said he did riot think the letter requiredany comment, and the matter dropped. Butwearentt inclined; to d rop the matter bo easily. %i Warden Buil, J.P., was so ignorant as he; says he is oh the subject (and we will not deny his ignorance on this or on 'any other subject under fche sun), in the , name of common sense, did he want the, advertising done in an outside paper ? Surely he! must have either a reason (P^ or spite of some kind to gratify,, which; too frequently stands in the light of reason for men of the kidney of Warden Bull, JJP. Warden Bull, J.P., should' remember that as he is a publi<j man his public actions are open to criticism by the Piws, and that no section of that body, however humble, will allow l its rights to be trodden on with impunity. In concluding what is to us a most unpleasant subject, we may say this ia the most distasteful we have ever had to write upon, and we must express bur surprise the Board did not at least order bur letter to be acknowledged. That would have been an act of courtesy which would have 'cost nothing. ; Mr (Mueleb Bull, 'J.P*, as a public man, has yet a lot to learn, and we have, pleasure in giving him this lesson. • . ■■■
