Interesting Breach of Promise Case
Our Wellington .correspondent writes;: — I hear that a breach of promise case full of interesting details and disclosures, will occupy the attention of the Judge at the next sitting of the Supreme Court here. The fair plaintiff is the daughter of a wellknown publican, and the defendant is a prosperous sheepfarmer in the Pahautanui district. Substantial -damages are claimed. It appears that the squatter and his inamorata had been for a considerable time on excellent relations. It is alleged that he offered her his hand and heart, but before registering his saured vow at the alter, he asked leave to make a trip to Great Britain. The marriage was arranged to take place directly he returned. Unfortunately fpr the young -girl, the squatter during his- absence, which extended over 12 months, "became the slave of an -English beauty, and they recently reached the colony — man and wife. The jilted one had given birth to a young squatter, shortly after the departure of the old one, and her feelings may be imagined. She now means to sue for exemplary damages tagidoß alimony for the $hil<'.—-Waira-rapa Star. ;
