State School Committee
The ordinary monthly meeting of the Committee was held at the Schoolhouse last evening. Present — Messrs Watts (chairman), Worsfold (secretary), Rutherford, Lankshear, Hicks, ' and Beading. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Correspondence was read as follows: From tbe Head Teacher, the usual i monthly report, showing the average roll to be 308, and the average attend- . ance 220, being an increase in average ' roll of 20, and increase in average attendance of 14. From the same, a list of scholars entitled to the Board's medals and certificates, showing that 28 were entitled to first-class tSilver medals, 29 to second-class silver medals, and 28 to third-class certificates. From the Education Board, stating that in the event of Parliament reducing the Education vote, the Committee's would have to be reduced proportionatly ; also recommending Miss Ellen Prendergast as teacher if • the Committee had no other suitable candidate; and asking for the num* ber of scholars under 6 years of age. From the same, in reply to the chairman, to the effect that the Board had no funds available for repairs to the Head Teacher's residence.
