We have to acknowledge receipt of a complimentary ticket for the Wesleyan annual picnic. Bank ef New Zealand shares continue to rise and are now being bought in London for £16 Mr Baw's brakes will run to Mr Henson's paddocks at intervals to-morrow afternoon. We have to acknowledge reoeipt of a batch of Parliamentary papers from the Government Printer, English mails per direct steamer Ruapehu, arrived in Feilding yesterday by the midday train from Wellington. The officer commanding a Welling l on Volunteer corps, advertises his company will hold daylight parades at night. At the Rangiora race meeting last Thursday, Brian Boru, by Papapa out of Cast Steel, pulled off easily the District Hurdles from a good field. Guy Fawkes was in Feildmg on Saturday last, and his exhibitors reaped a very fair Harvest ef copper and small (very small) silver coin. The shop of Mr Peter Thompson has been much improved by the addition of a commodious verandah. Mr W. Watts was the builder. A new advertisement appears to-day from Messrs J- C. Morey & Go. who have just opened up a quantity of new and fashionable goods. We have to acknowledge receipt of a complimentary ticket for the Grand Farewell and Welcome Tea to be held m the Salvation Army Barracks on Friday next. The next English and European mail per Coptic, direct, will close at Feilding on Friday, the 11th of November, at 4 p.m. Lel'crs must be marked " per Cop t:c" ; due in London 25th December. ' The annual picnic of the Feilding Weslevan Church will be held to-mor-row in Mr J. Henson's paddock. Should the weather bo unfavorable the tea will be held in the Church, Grey Street. Mr John Marshall, dairyman and wood-dealer, has a notice in to-day's paper in winch, while thanking his customers for their pa9b support, he asks for a continuance of their favors. Complaints have been made that the street lamps have not been lighted for , several nights. Is this economy on the ' part of the Borough Council, or careless- ' ness on the part of thelamplighter ?
A dance will be held in the Public Hall to-morrew evening. The bankruptcy of F. W. Berry, oarpenter, is announced in another column. A well-bred young Alderney Bull is advertised for sale. Particulars may be obtained at this office. A letter from "J, 5.," dealing with Borough affairs and the proposed loan will appear in our next issue. An unfortunate woman named Martin, wife of the landlord of the City Hotel in Wellington, committed suicide on Sunday morning last by taking a quantity of "Bough on Bats," The deceased leaves a family of six children.
We publish to-day the programme of the Feilding Sports for Boxing Day. As usual the prizes are very liberal, amounting to £150 in all, Tenders for the privileges will be received up to 8 o'clock on Friday the 18th instant.
At the sale of Small Euns, held at Wanganui yesterday, by Mr Marchant, Commissioner of Crown Lands, there were sold the leases of five :Maungakaretu, and one in Eewa districts, comprising 6500 acres at B£d per acre rental.
On Wednesday, November 9th, the Post and Telegraph office will be observed as a close holiday. A counter delivery of letters will be made on Tuesday at 8.30 p.m. All mails for despatch on Wednesday will be closed at 10.30 p.m. on Tuesday.
We remind our readers of the Caledonian Sports to be held in Palmerston to-morrow, the programme of which appears on the first page. A special train will leave Feilding at 11.15 a.m., and returning will leave Palmerston at 5.30 p.m.
It is improbable (says a special correspondent) that Mr Maxwell will resume management of the railways if he returns to the colony. Mai or Atkinson is very anxious that the Government proposal for a non political Kailway Board should be adopted.
The " second mate's nip" has been abolished at Bellamy's, and long drinks of B. and S. raised to Is. AB. with a Split soda is charged nine pence. There is great tribulation among members in consequence. Mr Vincent Pyke is about to give notice of a series of questions on this interesting subject.
That rare old sport, Captain Jackson Barry, has been interne wing the Mel* bourne Sportsman, and has told it that he rode races in New South Wales fifty years ago ; that he won a hurdle race in Blenheim four years ago ; and that he is now engaged on a work on the early history of Victoria, which will include particulars of the big match between Veno and Alice Hawthorn.
Mr Gordon Forlong, the popular lecturer, will deliver a discourse at the Town Hall, on Sunday afternoon next, at 3 o'clock. The subject of the lecture will be "Why God does not destroy Satan," a subject which drew crowded audiences at the Opera House in Wellington some months ago. No charge will be made for admission.

The London Figaro announces the death of Alice May, the popular and versatile operatic artist, at a city in America, of congestion of the brain- The news of this talented lady's death will be received with regret by thousands in New Zealand. A more accomplished vocalist and pleasing aotress has never appeared in English Opera on the stage in this colony. Her splendid impersona« tiom of " Maritana." Arline in the " Bohemian Girl." and Eily O'Connor in the *' Lily of K'l'arney" ar© yet fresh in the memory of those who heard her.
To-day 'b Times says :— An anonymous printed document, bearing the Dunedin postmark, but no imprint has reached us, and we understand that copies hare been forwarded to every member of both Houses. It reflects in the grayest manner upon the public and private character of a member of the Legislature, and we presume some notice can hardly fail to be taken of it. So very gross an at* tack on the reputation of a member of Parliament can hardly be passed over in silence. The anonymous author and printer of such a document ought most certainly to be ferrited out and called upon to answer for their conduct. — The Government have decided t» ask the House to-day to refer the Midland Railway question to a Select Committee, and if this is agreed to they will propose that the debate on the Financial State* ment shall proceed forthwith.
