On the *sth instant we held a special sale of horses at Palmerston North, when the racing stud belonging to Doaald Fraser, Esq., and numerous other horses of every class were offered to public competition. The brood mares were first brought forward when Discretion, by Towton, and dam of Resolution, Hailstorm, and Ringleader, fell to the bid of Mr Walters for JBIO. Candour, full sister to Discretion, was knocked down to Mr Hannett at £16 10s, Mr C. Fitzherbert being the fortunate purchaser of the good old mare Bay Leaf, by Peter Flat, dam Starkie, and in foal to Premier. Other good mares were sold at less rates. We were unable to quit Laurel and .^peculation, the bidding for the former running up to 175 guineas, but she was passed in at 200 guineas, Speculation had been turned out for the last year and did not command the figure bo good a performer j deserved. Rifle, by Armorer, dam discretion, a promising, horse brought £52, Mr Marten, of Wellington, being the purchaser^ Spray, bj Hippocampus, dam. Foam, exceptionally well bred/ brought £31, the highest bidder being Mr Henry, of Feilcfihg. Some good youngsters, by Danbury, were offered, but did not reach the vendor's value, but a couple by Natator, 2-year-old, brought £10 and £14: Young draught colts and fillies brought from £10 to £14, Hacks and harness iierses from £4 to £13. pur sale at Awahuri last Tuesday went off very, well, there being a decided improvement in- young cattle, but still plenty of room for further as even compared with last year's rates at this time. Our: yards' were well filled vrithusef ul lines, and we- sold nearly all. We quote:— Fat bullocks, £6 5/-; fat eow,s,-£3 12/6 to £« 17/6; 3-year 'steers, £3 15/-; 18-month steers, £2 3^6; weaners, mixed, 20/- to 21/6; forward wethers, 10/3 ; hoggets, 8/4.
