Concert in St. John's Schoolhouse
" ' . '' "♦• ~ ; The first •concert held in the x3unday Schoolroom, under the auspices of the Ber. A. Hermon, took place on Tues« day evening, anii was a great success. Notwithstanding the inclemency of the weather, the audience was a remarkably good one, and most appreciative, the r applause in many cases being rocifefous, but no encores we re admissible, as the programme was a long one. Miss Atkins, Mrs Macarthur, Mrs FitzHerbert, Miss Beattie, and the Misses Bray were the lady 'soloists, and the gentlemen -were Messrs Coote, F. Goodbehere, Hartgill, \anid W. Bray ; besides these, ! several other ladies and gentlemen formed a glee party, and sang some pretty glees in capital style. Mrs Hermon, Mrs FitzHprbert, Mrs Cald- : w«ll, and Miss jßbe played pianoforte .solos, and" Mr Hermon gave a most amusing reading, which > was thoroughly appreciated. The proceedings closed with a verse of God save the Queen, the solo part of which was ; taken by Miss Atkins. The sum of { £ : 5 was realised for the Sunday School Xibrafy Fund, in support of which the concert was given.
