Feilding Borough Council
The usual monthly meeting of th® above was held on Thursday evening last. Present— Mr Goodbehere (the Mayor), Crs Lethbridge, Haybifctle, Nicholas, Fowles, Thomson, Chamberlain, and Worsf old. The minutes of the previous special and ordinary meetings were read and confirmed. The statutory meeting was further adjourned until 'Monday next. CORHESrOJiBBNCE. From Dr Monckton, asking the Roadniau to place a few loads of gravel on the road opposite his entrance. From T. Hurst, asking the Borough Council to metal that portion of the Kiinbolton road opposite his new building. '■■'■■■# '~'*~~ Erom the Chairman of the Feilding School Committee, asking for a lew loads of gravel for the school. From Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, asking for cheques for £18 7s 6d and £21 17s. The report of the Public Works Committee, recommending accounts for £4& 2s 9d to be paid, was read and adopted. The report of the Finance Committee, recommending accounts for £19 7s 7d to be paid, was read and adopted. Proposed by , the Mayor, seconded by Cr Kaybittlq, That a cheque for £18 7s 9d and £20 17s be remitted to the secretaries of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Boards,, Wanganui.—Carried. Proposed by Cr Fowles, seconded by Cr Thomson, That the applications of Dr Monckton, Mr Hurst, and the School Committee be referred to tho Engineer to deal with. — Carried. The Mayor brought before the Council the case of Mrs JScott, who was in great ' distress. She has five young children, and is laid up with rheumatic fever. Her husband is also an invalid. ; : It wan decided, after' some discussion, that substantial assistance be given. Cr Nicholas thought some one in the Council ought to have power to grant relief at once in similar cases, because a sick person might die in the interval between the meetings of the Council. Proposed by Cr Lothbridge, sec- - onded by Cr Worsfold, That Mrs Scott be paid £2 out of the Charitable . Aid Fund. — Gamed. Cr Haybittle asked if the contribution to Mr McManus was still beiug paid, the Mayor answering in the affirmative. Cr Lethbridge said he bad boen asked to invite the patronage of ibe Mayor and Borough Councillors to an entertainment to be given by Feilding amateurs to raise funds for Jubilee gifts for the school children. In reply to Cr Worsfold, the Mayor said the new rate .book was in course of completion. .Proposed by Cr Fowles, seconded by Cr Thomson, That the Engineer get a few loads of metal put on Weld street where it crosses Messrs Bartholomew's tramw ( ay.— Carried. Proposed by Cr Lethbridge, seconded by Cr Worafold, That the entertainment to be given on Jubilee night for the purpose of presenting a Jubilee gift to the school children be under the patronage of the Mayor and Councillors. —Carried. Proposed by the Mayer, seconded by Cr Haybittle, That the free use of the pile driving monkey belonging to the .Borough be granted to all ratepayers who, on the certificate of the Engineer, shall require the same for the purpose of protective works to property in the Borough. A division was called for, 7 and the motion was carried, Crs Thomson and Worsfold voting against it. The meeting then kdjourned.
