' We learn from an exchange that the Government have insured to their full value the Telegraph and Post Offices in Christchurch, Auckland, and Dunedin, the risk in each case being divided be* tween the five New Zealand offices, viz, the New Zealand, JNational, Colonial, Standard, and Union. Tue propriety of iasuring all Government buildings in the colony above £5,000 in value is under consideration, and the insurance companies have been invited to make proposals on the subject. We regret to learn that Messrs Baker and Co.'s thoroughbred imported horse Feve died on Tuesday afternoon, at the proprietors' stables, Foxton. Feye was an exceptionally well-bred animal being by the groat St. Leger winner, Lord Clifdeu, out of Haricot. Feve stood the last season iv this district, and it was | the intention of the proprietors, had Feve lived, to have kept eithor him or Somnus in the district next season. They had not quite decided which. The death of the former has, howevor, settled the question for Sonimis to remain in the district. Feve sired a number of good horses, in the Waikato district, notably Victoria, Victory, and Patrician, as well as some of the best hacks in the north. His loss will therefore' be felt not only ! by the proprietors but also by owners of brood mares. The Queen's Jubilee is a subject thati ha 3 been engrossing the minds of British people " the wide world over," and in none more so than in the colony of New Zealand. Various and multiplied are the proposed methods of celebrating the event, but there are none so worthy of consideration or of such practical benefit to tho masses in town and country, as that now commenced at the Wholesale Family Drapery Warehouse, Te Aro House.
