Several new bills were introduced. Sir Eobert Stout said; that he dei sired to make a statement with reference to the Representation Bill. After I the amendments that had been carried in the bill last night, the Government did not see their; way clear to proceed any further with the bill in its ! present shape, v, Mr Baliance moved the second reading of the Wauganui Harbour Bill. Mr Bryce did not oppose though he thought the expenditure would- not bo of any use. Mir Bruce opposed, on behalf of Bangitikei. 'The second reading was carried by 35 to 23. The return asked for ' by Mr W. F. Buckland in the Hall case was agreed to. Sir George Grey moved the second reading of the Law Practitioners Bill. The second reading, was- darned by 29 to 24. . i On the motion of Mr W. D. Stewart the Friendly Society Act Aniendmeet Bill was read a second time. ' Sir G. Grey moved the second read- i ing the Contageous Diseases Act Ec- | peal Bill. The Bill was.- thrown out. | . The Lands for Settlement Bill was introduced by Sir George Grey and read a first time. ,• : . .; . - . v " > ■ The Post Office Amendment Bill (making it penal to have in possession any counterfeit stamps) was read a second time. : ;-...;■ The Hon. Mr Baliance moved the second reading of the Naval and Military Settlers and Volunteers Land Bill. It embodied the result of the labours of .Commission appointed last session to inquire into the claims of the old soldiers and Volunteers. The Bill was then read a second time.
