Death of Sir T. G. Browne
♦■ . By Electric Telegraph. — Copyright. (reotbb's tklegrams.) London, April 19. Ohituary— Sir Thomas Gore Browne (formerly Governor of New Zealand), aged 80. [Sir Thomas Gore Browne, K.O.M.Gk, was born in 1807; entered the Army at the age sf 16, and served for many years with the 28th Regiment ; acted as aide-de-camp to Lord Nugnet, and was for some time Colonial Secretary. In 1836 Major Gore Browne exchanged in the 41st Kegi- . xuent, and served during the occupation of Afghanistan. He held the command of his regiment at the bat-! ties of Candahar, Ghuznee, Cabul,' and his gallantry and humanity were such. that he obtained a lieutenantcolonelcy and was made a 0.8. In 1454 Colonel Gore Browne was appointed Governor of New Zealand, and in 1861, having completed his term, of office, was .succeeded by Sir George Grey, and he . himself succeeded Sir Henry. Young as Governor of Tasmania. He resigned the last mentioned effice in. 1 869,. when he was ereateda Knight Commander of St. Michael and St. George.
