The Feilding Star. SATURDAY, APRIL 9, 1887. Larrikinism
We hope the case heard in the R.M. Court on Thursday last against Robert Parb, junr., but which was dismissed owing to the insufficiency of the evidence to convict, will act as a warning to young lads who are in the habit of perpetrating acts of larrikiaism in Feilding. The Magistrates who presided, commented in strong terms of condemnation on the misbehaviour of a number youths in the Borough who seem to be quite beyond parental or other control. The Constable was complimented on his efforts to check them, and the Bench was of opinion that his failure to secure a conviction was entirely attributable to the darkness of the night. It was pointed out that the lads risked commencing life with the dreadful stigma of being gaol birds, or else that their parent's hard earnings would be expended to save their sons from corSoral punishment for blackguard conuct. The accused was reprimanded for his disrespectful demeanour when in the box, and warned that he had narrowly escaped a severe punishment. We may state that for the future every case of larrikinism perpetrated will be investigated in the R.M. court, therefore parents who have a desire to see their sons arrive at a respectable manhood should exercise their authority and keep them at home at night.
