Manchester Road Board

'The ordinary monthly meeting of the above was held at the offices of the Board on Saturday last. Present — Messrs Lefchbridge (chairman), Linfcon, Macarthur, and Pieasauts. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. He also drew attention to the dangerous state of cutting on the Taonui road, pointing out that if not attended to some serious accident may occur. . From M. Cohen, for J. E. Nathan/ enclosing cheque for balance of ratesi after deducting account for fallings bush on Stoney Creek road. From Walter Funnell, Ashhurst, 1 asking his name to be struck off the rate book, and that of J. H. Paton be? substituted. ' From Funnell Bros., Ashhurst,, drawing attention to the condition of certain culverts on their road, and asking them to be enlarged. , From F. Thorby, of Bulls, offering; • to purchase section No. 15 Stan way > road, the rates on which have note 1 been paid for some years. t From Commissioner of Property ' Tax, re a certain amendment on roll , for the County of Oroua. From B. K. Beid, re expenses of l Ashhurst Licensing Committee. From the Under-Secretary of Public Works, re FltzHerberfc bridge. From Bobert Kirkpatrick, of Stoney ' Creek, re certain road work done. i Also applying to cut a ditch along the cutting leading to the gully. Proposed by Mr Macarthtn-,. and seconded by Mr linton, That" this Board hereby authorises the conversion of the outstanding debentures, given by this Board to the Govern- * for grants under the Roads and bridges Construction Act 1882, into five percent, debentures, as provided by clause t 27 of the Government Loans to- Local ) Bodies Act,' lßß6, and that the chairi man take the ,necessary steps to carry this resolution into effect. — Carried. ' Proposed by Mr Macarthur, sec- • onded by Mr linton, That when the ' debentures given by this Board under 1 the Boads and Bridges Construction [ Act, 1882, are converted into live per . cents., the special rate of one penny ' and one-sixth now levied be reduced to > one halfpenny in the £, and that those ratepayers who have . paid the special . rate under the old scale have the • excess placed to their credit as against the general rate for the current year. — Carried. ' Proposed by Mr Pleasants, seconded j by Mr linton, That Mr Cohen be informed that the rates must be paid to. the Board direct and cannot be allowed to be a set off as a contra. — Carried. Proposed by Mr Pleasants, seconded by Mr Macarthur, That the Engineer be requested to inspect the road between Mr Adsett's mill and the Feild- [ ing- Ashhurst road, and if the sum of | £10 will repair it sufficient for traffic, , to do it ; if not, to report to the Board at its next meeting. — Carried. Proposed by Mr Macarthur, seconded by Mr linton, That the rate book be altered for section 185 from Walter Funnell's name to J. Paton. — Carried . . Proposed by Mr Pleasants, seconded by Mr linton, That Gardner Bros, be permitted to improve the road between the Pohangina and Feilding roads according to the Engineer's estimate.' The Board to pay for the work 18 months from date. — Carried. Proposed by Mr Linton,. seconded by Mr Pleasants, That Mr Bray be allowed 25s a month fear inspecting the toll book and banking the tolls.— Carried. A ballot was taken for retiring; members, and Messrs Macarthur, Linton, and Pleasants were drawn. Accounts amounting; to £126 16s lid were passed for payment, and the meeting adjourned.
