A meeting of creditors in the above estate was called for at the Court House on Saturday afternoon last. There were no creditors present. The Deputy Assignee was in attendance, as was also the debtor and his solicitor (Mr Sandilands). The following is the statement of assets and liabilities : — Assets, £25. Liabilities, A. R. Cox (estate of), £108; W. Fox, Wellington, £50 ; A. Sample, Wellington, £40 ; F. Jobsob, Wellington, £9; C, Gamble, Wellington, £20; Mrs Davy, Wellington, £19 ; Halcombe and Sherwill, £42 ; D R. Lowers, 12s; C. Henry, F. R. Linton, £12; W. Stevens, £6 15s; F. Train, 12s; J. M. Higgin, 10s 6d; Watt and Jones, Marton, £6 10s ; S. Gibbons, Marton, £6; McDonald, - Marton, £3 10s; Salmon, Palmei ston, £6 ; J. L. Oliver, Foxton, £40 ; Prior and Sandilands, £2 2s; total, £383 lis 6d. The debtor, being sworn, said: — I have been 2 years in Feilding; I had been 2 years in Wellington before that; I was a clerk m the Mutual Provident Insurance Company for a year at £130, and 8 months in the Government Insurance Company at a salary of £130 a year; I have done nothing since I came to Feilding till January last, when- I was employed by Mr Jones, and still am in that employment, but I get no wages, only keep; I have kept no books of account, and consequently cannot give a detailed statement -of cash received and paid away by me ; in reference to my test of liabilities, A. R. Cox, £108 —This is for £80; lent; to me by Mr Cox some 18 months ago ; tho remainder is for interest ; this money iwas given, or lent to me, by Mr Cox ;at my request, and "for finy owxi use ;; for it I gave him my p.n. at 3 months;" when I got this £80 I was pressed by creditors in Wellington ; I paidYfiis-. lop, Bowei;n, &e. ; M. Fox,, £s0 — Fox and I backed Griffin's p.n) for £50 ; Griffin cleared out, and Fox took up the bill ; I had a liability to Fox besides ; A. Sample, £40— This is for a bill endorsed for Griffin in favor of Sample ; Griffin got tlie mone}* ; ho cleared out of Wellington long before I did; T. Jobson, £9-1 borrowed money from him to £1G" aiid interest^ added; I got about £12 ; I haw paid part, and now owe £9 ; this was about 3£ years ago ; C. Gamble, £20— This is for clothing contracted about 3 ago ; I have paid him about £20 al* together ; Mrs Davy, £ 1 9— This item is for board while in Wellington ; Halcombe . and Sherwill, £45 — I bought cattle from McKenzie through their agency for 100 head ; I bought the cattle, .and sold them again in a few days ; the £45 represents the loss; I gave them a p.jf. for same ; Charles' Henry, £B— Saddle and bridle ; I got them this year ; I still have them ; F. R. Linton, £12—1 got £10 from him I about 12 months ago ; I borrowed it ; I got the money as someone was pressing me at the time ; I gave him a p.n. at 3 months; this p.n.. is still in his hands; W. Stevens, £6 15s— For clothing a year ago ; F. Train, 12s— Goods ; Watt and Jones, £6 10s— For clothing about 6 months ago ; S. Gibbons, £6 — Board and lodging about 6 mouths ago ; J. McDonnell, £3 10a —Balance of clothing 6 months ago ; 1 paid lain £2* W account; J. Salmon, £6— Clothing last month ; I have paid him nothing; J. Oliver, £40— Money lent 3£ years ago, before I came to Feilding ; X gave him a p.n. ; lean make no offer of composition to my creditors ; up to within a month or two, say since last September, I have been in receipt of a remittance from my father; sometimes l got £10 and sometimes £20 ; during the last 2 years I have had about £120 from home; the immediate cause oE my filing was a warrant issued by Fox for £50 in the R.M. Court, Wellington ; lie obtained a distress warrant, and I filed; my creditors in Wellington about 4 months ago were pressing me for payment ; I was ln hopes that I would be getting money from Home, and so through Mr Sandilands I offered them 8s in the £ ; I never got a reply from Mr Fox of a satisfactory charaoter, and after the warrant was here I offered £20 to square it up, but it was too late.
The meeting .was adjouraed by the Assignee, to Monday, April 4th.
