Mr A. F. Halcombe has just returned to Feilding; ftom a visit to Masterton, bringing with him a number of fine trout — the result of a day's i . angling in one of Masterton's pellucid streams. Would that' this stream and its fish were' in Feilding. There must be a few very mean men loafing in the Harbor Board Block, because the depot of Mr Mountfort and his men, who are surveying up there, has been robbed of late by some persons who have somewhat refined tastes. They have taken money, books, tobacco, coffee, and a valuable rug. Now, a surveyor's camp is generally looked upon as a place where hospitality is dispensed to all and sundry with a free hand, so it is uncommonly iard for them to be the victims of pett* robbers. Messrs Lock Bros, report having receive cable advice from Adelaide of the sale of a parcekpf Nelson hops thereat Is 3d per pound* -.Deducting the duty of 6d per pound andwfcay ld for expenses, the amount realised will be about 8d per pound, a very satisfactory price as things ! have been of late. If, as is probable, an Australian demand continues, the new crop should bring a more satisfactory price, especially as the local yield is not expected to come up' to the New Zealand demand.
