The fire • broke out in H uxley V (tailor) prem isesj on Lauabton Quay, • and before the. Fire Brigade arrived had spread : to Leary and Campbell' s'auction mart. Tlae. water supply wast insufficient. The Fire Brigade (assisted by sailors ■- and marines of H. M.S. N©lso-n).y?orked : admirably.. The cause- of. thet origin r' of 'the fire is -a :mystery.v Tn'e.-build-iriga totally destiwyed are as follow :-r~ - J^ Huxley, tailor's 1 -shap .;• ; Leary and I Campbell, auction mart ; :Ba ! rraud and . Soosr, chemist's' shop ; ;T. Kennedy Mtiedonald and Co., auction mart (and . MfiguinityV wine and spirit cellar) ; ; Thompson, Shannon, and Co., soft gaodsr warehouse and factory. Those • weetked are-— Buckley,.- Stafford, ; and t Bfl>rfc6nfisolicitors' ofiices; and Clarke's bbatfdinghause. • J. Parker and' Co.'s • Warehouse was greatly . damaged. Edwards -and Green's premises were • greatly damaged, 4, a* were the roofj . wMdaws, aud .stock*: on .the top floor of 'Johnston's' bonded store.
