A Lucky Racehorse

The Times records the ' successes achieved by the Duke of "Westminister's racehourse Ormonde. Since he made his debut upon the racecourse, in October, 1885, Ormonde has never been beaten, and he has won more money in stakes than any of his predecessors, He is a son of Bend Or, and of Lily Agnes. The record ©f the horse's performances is as follows :— At the Newmarket Second October Meeting, 1885, he wonithe Post Sweepstakes, value 45500. At the following Houghton Meeting he won the Criterion Stakes, worth £906, and the Dewhurst Plate, value £1602. Ormonde took part in the first Spring Meeting at Newmarket this year, winning the Two Thousand, the actual value of the race to thejwinner being £4000. A Httle later, at Epsom, Ormonde won the Derby, beating The Bard and seven other horses. The value of the stakes was £4700 At the Ascot Meeting, Ormonde won the St. James' Palace stakes (worth £1500), aud the Hardwicke Stakes (value £2438). At the Doncaster September Meeting Ormonde won the St. Leger, beating St Mirin and several others. The stakes were worth £4475. In the First Ootobwr Meeting at Newmarket the Eighth Great Foal Stakes (value £1140) was won by Ormonde. At the same uaeefciug he walked over for the Newmarket St Leger, worth £475. At the Swoon d October meeting at headquarters Ormonde carried ol¥ the Champion Stakes, value £1212 10s. He hail two engagements at the Newmarket Houghton meeting, winning the .Free Handicap (£650) aud the Piivate Sweepstakes, value £1000. Thus in thirteen races, Ormonde has won for the Duke of Westminister £24,598 10s. The least valuable was the Newmarket St. Leger (worth £470), and the most remunerative the Derby(value £4700). Ormonde was ridden iv all his races, except the Two Thousand Guineas anl the Hardwicke Stakes at Ascot, by Archer, and upon these two occasious Gh Barrett was his jockey.
