Farewell Tea

A very pleasant gathering took place at the Wesleyan Church last Thursday evening, the occasion being a farewell tea to Mrs Aitken and family and Miss Forthouse, who are about to leave Feilding to settle in Ashhurst. A number of lady members of the church had prepared a most sumptuous tea for the occasion, and as a further attraction the church was prettily decorated with flowers and evergreens. A large number of friends were also present. After the tea was partaken of, a meeting was held, presided over by the Bey; Mr Griffin, of Sandon. Speeches were made by Messrs S. J. Thompson, W. Oarthew, E. McLean, and other members of the congregation, each being expressive of regret at the loss of Mrs Aitken's and Miss Porthouse's services to the Church and Sunday Schonl. Votes of thanks were accorded the ladies named, and hearty good wishes for their future welfare and happiness were expressed on all sides. - Musical selections were rendered during the evening in capital style, Miss Kennedy, Miss Forthouse, and Mrs C. Brown presiding at the harmonium. Before the proceedings closed, the Rev. Mr Griffin, in an appropriate speech, presented Miss Forthous© with a handsome china tea service, on behalf of the congregation, in recognition of her services to the Church and Sunday School. The presentation was duly acknowledged, and the assemblage dispersed, a most enjoyable evening having been spent by those present.
