Stock Report
Bulls, February 9. Messes Stevens and Gorton report as follow:— Though wo had a good hue m cattle and some good sheep r yarded at Palmerston on 3rd of February, " it was, owiug to the dry Weather, a dull sale, and »»-« wei-e"uot even able to place but very few after tho sale. At the ram lair held under the auspices of the Manawatu and West Coast Pastoral Association, on the 4th we held a very satisfactory sale of Mr G. Wheeler's Eoniuey rams from Stanway, Halcombe, they having been brought to. the ground in capital order without any artificial feeding! The prices ranged from 2 to 2f guineas, the average beiugaf ractiou under £3. Mr Carlisle's six- tooth Eomneys bred by Mr W. Akers, fetched for their age fair prices, going up to 2£ guineas. We sold some of the rams bred by Mr Bryant, and we had to pass in a good many, the supply being greater than the demand. Though Palmerston is decidedly a good centre for selling rams, it does soem absurd the Association should charge such high entrance fees when all the auctioneers on the coast make no charge whatever for equally good accommodation. -
The late welcome rains had evidently a good effect on our ram and skeep fair here yesterday, which was a most successful sale.
We yarded over 9,950 sheep and sold over 9,000. The sheep were of a very saleable class, over 5,000 being young sheep and chiefly two-tooth and 1,400 lambs. The attendance : of buyers was good and the bidding was spirited. We quote the following: prices iur sheep : — Fat wethers, 7s forward wethers, 6s 9d; 2-toothewes," 7s 2d to. 7s 8d; 2-tooth wethers, 6s 8d ; 2to 6-tooth ewes, 6s; lambs in wool, 38 lOd to 58; shorn, 2s 8d ; ewes, mixed ages, os to 5s 2d ; f.m.
