COMMERCIAL.

WELLINGTON MARKETS.

Wellington, February 5

Messrs George Thomas and Co. report produce prices as follow :--" Further changes, all of a downward tendency, are noticeable in various lines ; and potatoes with stocks accumulating, are now ruling from £3 to £$ 10s. We quote rye grass, 2s 9d to 3s ; cocksfoot 3£d ; oats, 2s to 2s 3d ; flour, £11 ; fowl wheat 4s to 4s 3d ; oatmeal at £11 ; and bran and pollard at £4 to £4 ss, are unaltered, but we look for slight reductions on these figures at any moment ; barley has somewhat slackened off as a feeding grain, and no doubt will continue to do so should fowl wheat (new grain) open at lower figures than has been ruling through last season ; maize commands a quiet trade at 3s 7d to 3s 9d ; chaff, bo*h sheaf and straw (new season;, is now in full supply, and the quality is exoellent ; prices are from £'4 to £4 10s for former, and £3 5s to £3 10s for latter description. Fresh butter, in consequence of the prevailing hot weather, is very scarce, dairymen being quite unable to forward supplies in anything like marketable condition — prices now rule from 9d ; there is no demand for salt butter ; cheese bacon, and hams are unaltered ; eggs are firm at last quoted rates, with an upward tendency. With the exception of bananas the arrivals of fruit have been oon« fined to the Nelson products, which are ruling somewhat as follow ? — Plums, 5s ; gages 6s 6d tx> 8s ; peaches 7« 6d ; nec« farines, 6s 6d ; apricots (in order;, 8s to 9s ; pears (greatly affected with the moth), 3s to 6s per half -case; apples (common), 3s ; good cooking sorts, 5s to 7s per case. l Poultry— Turkeys, 10s ; geese, 6s ; ducks, 4s ; fowls, 3s 6d per pair with only limited inquiry.
