What May Happen
: r-* There is we think, Little doubt that negotiations of a peculiarly confidential character have recently been carried on, and are not yet concluded, between the Premier and the Hon. Major Atkinson, in reference to the representation of the colony at the ■■Colonial Conference, and the relations of parties during the coming season. We should not be in the least surprised, although it it true that nothing is yet settled, to find the rival leaders travelling companions for Lonas joint representatives of New Zealand at the conferenee, and Sir Julius Vogel left to conduct the business of next session on a distinct understandthat the Representation Bill shall be pressed forward, and no new legislation of a party iniiia'ed. Possibly, also, in the event of such an arrangement, a seat in the Cabinet might be found for some representative of " the other side." — Post.
