The Feilding Star. THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 3, 1887. Bad Language

The sentence of six months imprisonment with hard labor in Wellington gaol, passed yesterday at the Resident Magistrate's Court on George Pkice for obscene language, ought to be an example to many of our young men who are too much in the habit of indulging in this disgusting habit both in private and the public streets. A case has been brought under our notice of three young men who a few days ago in the Kimbolton road, while standing within earshot of a private dwellinghouse, carried on a conversation which was plentifully garnished with the most profane oaths and revolting obscenity. Fortunately for them, the persons whose sensibilities were offended recognised the voices of the young men, and knowing them to be the sons of respectable parents who would have been disgraced by the imprisonment of the offenders, they were spared on this ocoasion. We observe by our exchanges that the Magistrates in every other part of the c Jony are inflictiag the severest penalties for this offence, and we are pleased to note that our local Justices of the Peace are equally determined to enforce the laws in this respect.
