Two Lord Chancellors

The descendants of two Lord Chancellors of England have this week shown that not even the Lord Chancellor himself can entail his estate so o.s to prevent its sale by spend thrift h«irs. On Wednesday, Hodgson, of Chancery Lane, auctioned off Ihe remnants of Lord Cairns' splendid law library for £2250. The great Lord Cairns, of Fortescue-Grant fum«, was riot present, but a number of eminent lawj r ers and dealers attended on the chance of picking up a few valuable volumoß which had survived tho culling process through which the library had passed since its private sale some juouths ago. During the whole of this week Lumley has also been engaged in auctioning off the household effects of another recent Lord Chancellor, Lord St. Leonards.
