Tihere must be something radically amiss with the methods of religious instruction adopted by the churches, says the Melbourne Leader. It is no uncommon occurrence for the most regular Attendants at places of worship to be convicted of dishonest practices and breaches of the law, and in some of the Indian papers it is not unusual to read at the end of an advertisement^-" No Christians need apply," The system of imparting & knowledge of the rudiments of religion adopted by the police authorities in New Zealand appears to be both singularly rapid and effective, and, therefore, commends iwelf to the notice of all professing (Jhri stians. A iad was recently brought into the police court as a witness, but it was found that he was completely ignorant of the nature of an o;ith, so his evidence, which was extremely important, tsould not fre accepted. The police applied fear a remand for a week, which wttsgcanted, and at the expira ti<ra of -flsat period the lad had been so skilfully ir.ined in tfce principles of the Christian faitfe that he successfully passed a most searching examination, gave his evidence, aad «o»---victed liis mother of arson.
