Invkrcakgill, December 22. A boy named David Morton, aged 10 years, hanged himself at Qtautau. It is cuid that- ever sinoe Mr Crow, n neighbour, hanced himself at Makarewa a fi-w days ago the boy had been do ng hi< best to imitate him with the above resutL, Dpnedin, December 22. It appear* that a Mrs Dobbs. having occasion to go out to the clothes line, left her baby on the floor. She had hardly gone ten yards from the door when she was alarmed at hearing the child screaming, and on hastening back to the room a horrible sight presented itself. A ferret belonging to Mr Dobbs having escaped from its cage, had attacked the child, ihe brute was tears ing with its teeth and claws at the right eye »f the infant, whose face was streaming with blood. Mrs Dobbs drove the animal ■ff and carried the child to Dr Leviuge, who pronounced the eye hopelessly destroyed. Patea. December 22. A school of whales passed the Heads last night at high water, when two were blown into shallow water, and being un» able to get away were xecured. One is 27 feet long, the other 21. Both are high and dry, and will be turned to good account by the lucky capturers.
