Awahuri School Committee
The ordinary monthly meeting of the Awahuri school committee was held on Saturday December 11, present Messrs Weightman (chairman), Woisfold* Bennett, and Campbell. Th c teacher's quarterly report showed the number of scholars on the roll to* be fifty-six, including eight Maoris, and half castes, the strict average attendance as 34, and the working average as 35*5 The great differencebetween the roll attendance is unfortunately too well known, at Awahuri, to. excite much attention. The chairman reported having convened a meeting of the ladies of thft district as arranged, and that whilenot many had been present, a number of others had sent promising support, for the school picnic He also reported that contrary to his expectation sufficient funds for school prizes had not come to hand. ' , It was therefore resolved» That thft teacher be requested to prepare subscription lists towards the children's prize and treat fund, the same to besent round the district soliciting thesupport of the residents. Messrs Woightman and' Bennett were appointed a sub-committee to obtain and award prizes, and the meeting terminated.
