The Manchester Rifles

«> The Inspection Parade, called for last night, was not well attended owing to the Tieavy raiu winch had been falling all i the afternoon. Lieut. Kirton, before *lisnrissmg the mon, said he had been Tequested by Capt. Macarthur, who was imavoidably absent in Wellington, to give them some general information on the new regulations to come into force in January, and how they would effect Volunteers. He pointed out it was absolutely necessary for all to qualify in judging distance practice, for which a second opportunity was offered on Saturday for those who did not attend at the last drill ; also for all Volunteers to go through their class firing. Ho said this parade was the last in this year, so that all should be told that the corps will start next year in a. new footing, when capitation will be granted on results, and those who do not attend will be weeded out of the corps without foil. The first class militia is to ba called out, which includes all unmarried men between 17 and 30 years of a£e. Volunteers being exempted no recruits will be taken on without an entrance fee to the amount of the capita - • tion, and the price of their uniform. The calling out of the militia will give more control to the officers, and they will be able to enforce discipline, without recourse to fines. January is the only month corps can accept recruits until July, and as Jnl v recruits can earn no capitation those who miss entering the corps in January, •will havo the pleasure of serving in the Militia. The men were then dismissed.
