Feilding Borough Council
The ordinary fortnightly meeting of the Council was held on Thursday evening last. Present— Crs J. 0. Thompson (in the chair), Worsfold* Lyne, Bishop, Fowles, and Bartholomew. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. From the Manager of the Bank of Australasia, Mr Kodgeson, asking his name to be put on the rate roll in place of that of Mr Webster. Prom Messrs Gk W. Fowles, W. €k Haybittle, and 8. J. Thompsen, asking permission to lay concrete footpaths opposite their business premises. From Mr Beckett, of Marton, j. thanking th» Council for electing him a member of the Wanganui Hospital and Charitable Aid Board. From J. E. Hayes, of Wellington, ; re repairs of Borough safe. ; The following is a statement of the Borough accounts: — Bank overdraft, £369 ; less amount due by interest account, £52 ; interest account, £56; loan account, £198; Tates, general and library, collected, I £256 ; outstanding, £245 ; loan rates i collected, £138. The statement ©f the receipts and expenditure of the Borough for half year ending September 30, 1886, was read and adopted. A notice was read to the effect that the Mayor elect, Mr a. Qoodbehere, will be installed in the Council Chambers on Wednesday next> the 15th instant, at noon. ATEDITORB BEPOBT. We have examined thejbooks of the Feilding Borough Council from March 31 to September 30, 1886, and after making one or two corrections we have certified to their being correct. The accounts to tho 31st March last are unaudited, the balance shown at that date of £9 17s not appearing in the accounts. We have had to pass entries to adjust. There is still j a difference of £3 10s (in excess) in the books brought forward from last account, which requires to be put in order, and as this difference still appears in the books,, we cannot wholly pass the present audit until this diference is adjusted, and the books to 31st of March duly audited. Loan Account. — In the expenditure of the loan appears items for £115 17s for laud purchases. We are not in a position state whether this ambudt is sanctioned by the Schedule of Works. J. Beattie ) A . E. GOODBEHERE j Audlt °^ Proposed by Or Worsfold, seconded by Cr Bishop, That permission be given to Messrs Fowles, Haybittle, and S. J. Thompson to lay footpaths as requested, subject' to the approval of the Engineer. — Curried. Proposed by Or Fowles, Reconded by Or Worsfold, That the Omimnl's safe be sent to Mr Hayes, of Wellington, to. be repaired. — Carried. It was arranged that the application of Mr Hodgesori be granted, and his name be put on the. rate roll in place of Mr Webster, on the return of the Mayor, who must initial the alteration in the rate batik. The subject of Valuers far tho rateable property in the Buruugu. for «iext year, was brought up. - Cr Bartholomew s.iid there was a good deal of dissatisfaction with the valuation last yoai\ The loau was spent* and tho rates were no higher. The Chairman said the valuations would have to be iv by the loth of January, 1887. He further said there were only two alternatives, viz., to advertise for tenders, or to appoint Mr Hill valuer again at the same rate as last year. Proposed by Cr Thompson, seconded by Or Lyne, That Mr Gt C. Hill be appointed valuer for the Borough property for the ensuing year at the same remuneration as last year, viz., £23.— Carried. Proposed by Cr Fowles, seconded by Cr Bartholomew, That this be an instruction to the Engineer to call for tenders for the erection of a bridge and othery works in Derby street, according to the Schedule of Works. —Carried. Proposed by Cr Worsfold, seconded by Cr Bartholomew, That the sum of £5 be drawn for petty cash. — Carried. The subject of the defaulters list was then brought up, and 50 names drawn to be sued. Cr Bartholomew asked why tho Nos. of the sections were not on the notices to ratepayers. The Town Clerk explained that he had been authorised by a former Mayor to leave them out as it saved useless clerical labor. It was resolved that for the future the Nos. of the sections be put on the rate notices. This was all the business, and the Council adjourned.
