A serious fire broke out in Knightrider street in the city last night, and completely destroyed a block of warehouses as well as the interior of St. Mary Mag« dalene Church. The loss caused by the c&nflagation is estimated at L100,(KJ0. j Jehn Morley, in addressing a Liberal ' meeting at Edinburgh last; night, stated he was in favor of the principle of selfgovernment being extended to Scotland. London, December 2. The Irish Executive has issued a pro« clamation prohibiting the summoning of meetings, called with a view of intimidating tenants to par rents. Th« Times, in a leading article on the state #f Ireland, urges continued firmness on .the part of the Government in the enforcement for respect for law, and be* lieves that by such firmness the struggle now proceeding will be shortened. The Mount Rennie (New South Wales) outrage has attracted some attention here, and the sentence of death passed on some of the perpetrators meets with general approval. I The Northumberland Coal Company, with a capital of £200,000, is announced. The company will acquire the Kingsoote property, Newcastle, N.S.W., at a cost of LIOO.OOO. A large number of Arab convict* have embarked at Toulon for conveyance to New Caledonia. France is pressing for the evacuation of Egypt by England, or, as an alterna* tive, the restoration of the dual control. The Bnssian and Turkish Governments are acting in. concert with the other Great Powers in endeavoring to bring about a settlement ot the Bulgarian difficulty. _^
