AUSTKALIANB v. CANTERBURY

[per united press association.] J Christchohch, Norember 26. I } The third encounter between Canterbury «nd Australia commenced at Lancaster Park at 12.50 p.m. to-day. ', The first two men who batted made a 1 good stand, and scored 48 before Wilding lost his wicket in trying to hit Trumble. Crawshaw got 20, and | was cleverly stumped by Jarvis (who kept the wickets after luncheon adjournment). . Blaokham. had the gloves previously. Jarvis had a hand in the dismissal of eight men Milton played first-rate cricket, treating "all the bowlers with, impunity, and abandoning all his. usual stonewall play. He was especially hard on Spofforth, whom he repeatedly cut for twos, threes, and fours. Barns and E. Cotterillalso played well. The latter got fairly on to one of Spotf orth's and hit the ball one hundred yards before it pitched. The fielding ,of the visitors was not good, some of the men mulling in picking up. The Australians lost one wicket before scoring, and after, ten minutes had been left for play they had tw« runs for the loss of one wicket. The game promises to be a very interesting one, and there should be a large attendance. The following are the scores:— Canterbury., fiTot innings, 170; Australians, first.inningis, 2 for one wicket. :
