The animal has been captured, and proves to be an enormous ercy seal 7 feet 6 inches long and weighs S ewt. Another is believed to be still at large. Wellington, November 26. Feilding .borough Council The usual fortnightly meeting of the above was held at the Council Chambers on Thursday evening last. Present— The Mayor, and Crs Evans, J. 0. Thompson, J. Bartholomew, H. Worsfpld, G. W. Fowles, J. Bishop, and P. Thomson. Mr GK T. H. Lyne, the newlyelected Councillor, made the usual declaration* and took his seat at the Council table. , The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. COKRESPONDENCE. From the Manchester Road Board, expressing its willingness to refund to the Council, within 1& months, half the cost of the Cemetery road. From the Auditor-General's office, re auditing the Borough accounts. , . . Frpiu the Cemeteiy Committee, re ** laying off the Cemetery into burial lots, together with plan showing H&» • same ; the Committee further recommended the abolition of the fee of 2» 6d for numbering each, grave, a» previously ckarged. From the Finance Committee, recommending sundry accounts, amount* ing to £2.0 2s 8d r be passed for paymeat. From the Publio Works Committee, recommending accounts amounting to £70 14* 3d be passed for payment. The following tenders were them read for the Feilding-Sandoo road— Thomaa Smith, £26 o»; Hubneir andi Rink, £21 12a 6d; Thomas- Meehan,. £27.178 3d,; Joseph Belfit, £32 Uay For the formation and metalling o£ Stafford street the following tenderswere received — Joseph Belfit, £2* 1 7sv 6d; Thomas Smith, £20 6s. Cr Thompson suggested: goingr- da with the Hubner and Rink road, and that tenders be called for the work. ; - Cr P. Cr Evans brought us» the question of Mrs Belfit and her rent troubles. It appeared from the Councillor'sremarks that Mrs Belfit, though.renting a house, had no cuutrol over thegrounds and fruit tives. Nothing: was done in the matter. The Mayor also refenrad to. a verbal apjlicatim for relief that had been made to him l»y a Mv»Milk. Her' husband was in Gisborne, and she had not he ml from him for some mcnth» past. , Mills wa» previously in business in Feilding a»a saddler. Cr P. Thomson suggested that the husband should be communicated with, through the police. After some discussion tike matter dropped. . | Cr Fowles, in refetdbg to the grassgrowing on the road sides throughout the Borough, 'suggested that permis> sion to cut the grass should be giveni .to any one wishing to de- sck - A general discussion followed, but no resolution was passed on thesub» , ject, the general opinion of the Council being that the grass c6uld be put, and that permksien from the Council to/dcrro was unnecessary. . The Council then ad joumed.
