+ In connection with a recent distribution of American char and brown ' trout fry in the rivers on this coast, i the "Wellington Post states — " It is proposed to take another supply of | fish through from Masterton to the Eeilding and Eangitikei districts early • next month by the regular express '. train. Now that through railway , communication is established, thero seems to be no reason why one hatchery, properly supported, should not supply fish and ova sufficient to stock . the rivers in the Wellington Provincial District with more efficiency and 1 economy than could be effected by a number of isolated hatchings <m a small scale with insufficient means. Given the appliances on the spot, and an unlimited supply of good water, it only means the employment of extra ' labor under the skilled curator's supervision to do so." We may mention i that the Manchester and Feilding Acclimatisation Society have already , taken the initiative. A suitable site, possessing all the necessary qualifiea- » tions, has been placed at their disposal by the liberality of Mr Charles Bull ; on his estate at Aorangi. The railway passes through Mr .Bull's property, and there is a side station within one hundred yards of the site of the hatching ponds. In our report of the last meeting of the Council of the Society it will be seen that a supply of young fish has been ordered from the ponds of the Wairarapa Society.
