m [FEE UNITED PEEBB ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, November 6. The Stark Purchase Commissioners bare handed in their report. They fail to find evidence of conspiracy. The rumours floating about reflecting on the character of two Ministers of the Crown they consider to be baseless malevolent, suspicions, and unworthy of further notice. The various land agents differ as to the value of the land estimates varying from '£1500 to £ 8000. The Commission find that in February 1885, Mr Stark had the land in the market at £7500, but when the Government entered on it for the purpose of survey in April 1885, he withdrew it, saying he expected £20,000 for it. They express the opinion that the Government, had they treated privately for the land when in the market, could have had it for £7500. The Commission consider the price paid for the laud to excess of its value, but are of opinion that there was . no irregularity in the mode of conducting or completing the purchaset They , acquit Mr Brewer, Land Purchase Officer, of any blame, also Mr Seaman, 1 Property Tax Valuer, of complicity in any attempt to defraud the Government.
