The Prince of Wales' Birthday

To-morrow will be celebrated the natal day of the Heir to the British Throne. The • Prince was born in 1841 and is now therefore 45 years of age. The occasion is marked in New Zealand by Volunteer parades, horse races, agricultural shows, and gatherin«rs of all kinds aud descriptions, at which the people enjoy themselves heartily, and with great contentment, if the weather ie moderately fine as it enables many of them who are otherwise confined by their occupations, to get an outing of some kind or another. In Feilding the only publio local attraction will be the picnic at Mr Herisen's in connection with the Wesleyan body, so that those who are bent on sport will hare to go to Wadganui, where an excellent programme is offered by the Wanganui Jockoy Club. The cheap fares on the Kailway puts the cost within the means of everybody, so to-morrow we may expect to see our township emptied of the greater number of its inhabitants. Not that they will all go to the two places mentioned, for we are aware of a number of private picnic parties who will choose their own ground on which to enjoy themselves. We hope they will all have a good time, and that they will remember to wish His Royal Highness " many happy returns of the day," and drink his health even in the modest beverages allowed by the most abstemious.
