(PEB UNITED PBKSS ASSOCIATION.)^ Timabp, November 2. A man named Dale was committed for trial for tbe robbery of £40 from the peraon of one Robert Zinnie, a coalminer, ef Brunnerton. Dunedin, November 2. A ease in which a man was sued for nn overdue newspaper onbscription, in which the question waa disputed as to whether tie had countermanded the paper, three Justices refused leave to appeal, on the ground that they wished to discourage litigation. A deputation representing the Southland sawmill interest waited on Mr Larnach, to call attention to tbe difference in the rates between tbe Wellington and Inrercarglll lines. On the former an allowance of 3d per 100 feet was made upon classified rates on timber for shipment, and this was not granted in Southland. Then the Tariff in Wellington was 9d for 21 miles, but on tbe Hurunui «»B tuff it was ls 5d and other rate* in proportion The Minister promised to bring the matter before tbe Publio Works Minister. Wellington, This Day. Tbe Native Minister bas gone to Otaki to be present at tbe funeral of tbe late Puke te Ao. Tbe Governor bas received from the Secretary for Colonies a copy of tiie despatch of Viscount Lyons to Earl Roseberry relating to the inte view with M. De Freycinet on the subject of recidiristes being sent to New aledodia.
Viscount Lyons entered a further protest against transportation.
