Manchester Road Board

A special meeting of the above was h |ld at the offices, of the Btard'yestii'day afternoon.' Present-^Messrs Lethbridge (chairman), Macarthur, Linton, and Pleasants. : •:< ■ r Proposed by Mr Robert Linton, seconded by Mr Owen Pleasants, That a tollgate be established on the Gorge road on the east side of the Manawatu river, near the Otungaki bridge, and the following be the scale of tolls at the Gorge Xtoad Tollgate : — For every passenger, 6d ; for every horse and man in charge,. Is; for every horse or additional head of cattle up to 20, 9d ; fer every additional horse or head of great cattle over 20, 6d; "for every sheep, goat, or other small eattiie|jpig& excepted, up to 100, 2d; fof every additional head, Id ; for every vehicle on 2 wheels, with or without springs, drawn by one horse, or head of great cattle, driver included; 2s 6d ;i for every additional horse or head of great cattle drawing the same, 9d; for a mail coach, driver included^' 2s( 6d ; for every horse more than 1 drawing the same, 9d; for every vehicle with | more than 2 wheels (except ai mail | coach), with or without springs, drawn by 1 horse or head of tattle, driver included, 3s 6d; for every additional horse or head of great cattle drawing the same, 9d ; for every traction engine, £1 ; between 10 o'clock at night, and 4 o'clock in the morning doubla the above rates shall be charged.— Carried. Proposed by Mr D. H. Maoarthur, seconded by Mr Owen Pleasaute, That John Aitken be appointed Collector, at the Gorge Eoad Tollgate, subject to a month's notice oo either side, unless in case of default in drunkenness, or neglect, when the Engineer or other officer of the Board may suspend the Colleotor at once, and report the same to the next meeting, when, if the Board dismiss the Collector, he shall not be entitled to receive any salary from the time he is so suspended. The Colleotor Bhall keep a day book, in which a correct list of every passenger, vehicle, and the. description and number of all stock crossing the bridge, and the fees paid shall tie' entered • The same book to be open for the inspection of the Engineer and Chairman of the Board only .--Carried. / Proposed by Mr Maearthury seconded by Mr Pleasants, That Mr T. Lowes be notified that the Gorge . bridge will W opened for traffic oa ;

the Bth day of November, and that the Board will require him to give up the right to collect tolls at the Lower Gorge Ferry at 9 a.m. on the morning of that date. This was all the business.
