A Cadet Corps

We have written before on the subject of the formation of a Cadet corps in Feilding, and on Tuesday night in tbe Public Hall we were forcibly reminded of the necessity for either that or some other means of finding profitable amusement for the growing lads in the Borough. On the occasion mentioned there were about thirty boys, all at a suitable _a £c, who were absolutely without anything to do but to hunt for fun and mischief. Now if they had any defined object to absorb their attention, when such object was a source of pleasure and amusement j while it afforded an esoape valve for thoir exhuberant animal spirits, their energies would be directed into such a channel they would be kept out of evil in the present, and be prepared in future to join the ranks of the permanent Militia or Volunteers, when occassion arose. There is one

man in Feilding who from his remarkable capacity for the management of young men, from his general popularity, from his singular powers of conveying instruction in a firm yet kindly manner, and from the military experience gained in the early part of his life ; who is singularly adapted to fulfil the duties of lustructor to a Cadet corps. We need hardly say we refer to Mr Samuel Daw. We believe if the parents and guardians of lads were to consult him on the matter, arrangements could be made satisfactory to all parties concerned. The expenses of clothing, &c, would be very small and could be easily provided for with very little outside help.
