BRIDGING THE OROUA.

TO THE EDITOR OF THK STAR. Sib, — I was much pleasod to see your able article in Thursday's issue on the subject of a traffic bridge over the Oroua river at Aorangi. A great amount of public interest is now being taken in this matter, and the want of such a bridge has been keenly felt by the Bottlers in the district, and their business connections in Feilding during the winter just passed. It may interest some of your readers to kuow that at one time the hopes of the residents were high that with the assistance of our clever and popular M.H.E. the difficulties in the way would be overcome. That gentlemen submitted plans of a section of a proposed bridge to the electors assembled together at Tabnui, and enunciated a clear and impracticable scheme, whereby on the f" striking of a rate in the adjacent -wards as security, the money could be secured from Government and the "bridge «rected. lam convinced such a rate would be almost unanimously agreed to. Nothing more, however, has been heard of the matter, and as our views of the facilities available for the raising of such monies are hazy in the extreme. I would suggest that Mr Macarthur would kindly enlighten us ou the subject, The interest in this matter is not confined to a clique it is widespread — and I am very sure the energetic and capable storekeepers and business men of Feilding are sufficiently wide awake to recognise the benefits accruing to their powerful and aggressive neighbor by matters being allowed to remain in their present position.— l am &c, Sheep Farmkk. ("This subject is referred to in our 1 leader.-fD. F.S.]
