«. SYDNEY v. WELLINGTON.

[PKE UNITED PBESS ASSOCIATION.]

Wellington, September 17

There was fine weather and dry ground for the match with Sydney, and about 2000 people were present. The Wellington men, who were keen favourties, scored a goal and a try in the first five minutes. Later on another try was obtained. Mclntyre took all the kicks, and though he missed the first by a foot he scored two goals from the others. In the second spell the local men ran through the others, and kept them continuously on the defensive, varied by short bursts on the part of the Sydney players. Some six or seven tries were obtained, but only one was allowed, from which no goal was kicked. Moorhous©, howeveT, potted a fine goal 30 yards in front of the posts, making the total score 1 8 points to nil. The Australians seemed stale, and played without much dash.
