The Englishmen in their second innings at Gravesend succeeded in putting together 450 runs before they were all disposed of: — F. 1 1 earn, caught, HI; J. M. Head, caught, 109; W. W. Head, caught, 87, eing the most successful baismen. The match was declared drawn, time not permitting the game to be played out. Tne Australian mails ex Orient Company's Lusitana, dated Melbourne, 23rd of July, were delivered today via Naples. The Rev. Austin, of Whitby, who has been offered the bishopric of Melbourne, has postponed his decision as to acceptance.
Mr Davitt, in the course of a speech, sad that evictions in Ireland would be resisted at any cost. Bishop Moorhouse, speaking «f the Victorian education system, expressed his opinion that under it children grew \ip in the most profound and deplorable ignorance of the Bible.
