Auckland, This Day. Phoebe Martin, wife of a gum digger, fell down the stairs of her house last night aad broke her neck. Peter Gnnzalis, a Spaniard, is in custody charged with a murderous assault on his son- in law, George Reed, last night. The prisoner said Reed was illtreating Mrs Reed when he struck him* The weapon used is supposed to have been a pointed iron weapon. Reed has two dahger»uß wounds on the forehead and is in the hospitul. Gonzalis appealed ,st the police court and was remanded.
