Manchester Rifles
The Manchester Rifles paraded in the Barracks on Saturday night for the purpose of electing a Lieutenant, and other business. Owing to the paucity of the attendance the election was postponed until September 9th. As several members attended in plain clothes Captain Macarthur stated that for the future when he called a parade, he would expect everyone to appear in uniform. He gave a brief resume of the New Regulations and pointed out how far they effected country corps. He spoke hopefully of the future of the corps. No new members would be accepted unless all the conditions were complied with. The company had already suffered suffic- j ient loss by men joining its ranks from dread of having to serve in the Militia.
A resolution was proposed by Sergt. Nichelas, seconded by Sergt. Ashworth, That a vote of thanks be conveyed to Lieut. Blaekmore for his services in connection with the Manchester Rifles, with an expression of regret from the officers non-commis-sioned officers, and men on his leaving the corps. This was carried with a hearty cheer.

The men were then dismiaaad
