Manchester Rifles
A meeting of the Council of the Manchester Rifles was held at the offices of the R and 0. A. Corporation - on last Saturday evening. Present — Captain Maearthur (presiding) lieutenant Blacksnore, Sergeants Nicholas (secretary), Evan*, Corporals Gosling, ', Humphries, and Kirton. After the usual formal business, it ♦■" was resolved, That Corporal Qmilxng .: be appointed assistant-secretary and .. custodian., of arms, accoutrements, ammunition, &c. Eesolved, That marksmen's badger bo issued to such members as have qualified for them. . ', ;'";,■ Resolved, That a parade for the election of a Lieutenant be held on . the evening of Saturday next • at 18 ; o'clock at the Barracks. Members ~ to be in uniform with side arms only. An apology was received from lieutenant Pleasants who was prevented by the weather frem attending the- . meeting. It was resolved, That when /the Militia scare commenced again no can? didates would be accepted unless after/ other conditions as to standard and other qualifications were fulfilled, and a substantial contribution made to the . funds ef the corps. ■• ;• The meeting wen adjourned.
